Hands in the Soil, Eyes on the Ecosystem

It’s been a stormy start to summer here in Minnesota—literally. With heavy rains, sudden winds, and a flurry of activity on farms across the region, we know it’s been a whirlwind season already. So if you’re winding down after the busy 4th of July rush, we invite you to pause, catch your breath, and dig into some regenerative news.

There’s a lot growing across the ecosystem—on farms, in the field, and within our network. Here are a few of the latest updates from across the Poultry-Centered Regenerative Agroforestry (PCRA) system.

ADVOCACY IN ACTION

Regenerative Agriculture Alliance’s (RAA’s), Executive Director, Diane, traveled to Washington, DC this month as part of a delegation organized by American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) to promote higher-welfare, farmer-first livestock systems.

The trip included farm tours and a day on Capitol Hill. Diane also joined a panel moderated by ASPCA, bringing RAA’s perspective on how public funding can help scale regenerative supply chains that prioritize both animal welfare and farmer livelihoods. As federal programs face uncertainty, we’re committed to showing up and demonstrating that alternative systems are not only possible—they’re working. Check out the ASPCA article about the trip!

CHICKENS, CHANGE, AND PROOF IN THE PADDOCKS

Early assessments from the new chicken breed being tested at Salvatierra Farms are showing promise, and PCRA farmers are already seeing results that invite them to engage even deeper within this system, proving what’s possible when we design and test systems intentionally!

ARNULFO PERRERA WELCOMED TO IOWA FOOD SYSTEM STEERING COMMITTEE!

Arnulfo joined us at the RAA in 2022 as the Poultry Processing Facility Manager and now serves as our Farm Services Director.  This month, we are celebrating the appointment of Arnulfo A. Perrera to the Iowa Food System Coalition Steering Committee!

MARK YOUR CALENDARS FOR FARM BUDS AT ORGANIC COMPOUND

Join us for a hands-on day of learning, working, and connecting at Organic Compound, one of the Tree-Range® Farms.

Come explore how Organic Compound stacks enterprises around their regenerative poultry production system. You’ll tour the paddocks, walk the perennial cropping systems, and get a behind-the-scenes look at how chickens transform soil, ecosystems, and farm economies.

This is more than a tour—it’s a working day! Come ready to help with tool prep, hazelnut pruning, and prepping the land for a 2025 harvest.
